First Release Under the Virgin Produced India Banner to be Unleashed Wide on Friday

SANTA MONICA/MUMBAI (March 19, 2015) - Virgin Produced India has acquired the Indian rights to THE DIVERGENT SERIES: INSURGENT from Lionsgate Films International in association with Kinesis Films. The film is being released worldwide on March 20th in 3D and IMAX at all major urban centres and key exhibition chains in India. This will be the first release for Virgin Produced India, a creative content company that caters to the youthful and fast-growing Hindi-speaking population. Based in Mumbai, the company is a partnership between Richard Branson’s Virgin Produced, Cinema Capital Venture Fund and Tantrik Group.

“As one of the world’s most recognized and respected brands with deep roots in entertainment, we felt it important to introduce Virgin Produced and enter the Indian market with the right film,” said Virgin Produced Chief Executive Officer Jason Felts. “We felt that INSURGENT would be the perfect first acquisition for Virgin Produced India given its core demographic and our target audience,” said Managing Director of Virgin Produced India Samir Gupta.

Directed by Robert Schwentke, THE DIVERGENT SERIES: INSURGENT stars Shailene Woodley (THE FAULT IN OUR STARS, THE SPECTACULAR NOW), Theo James (UNDERWORLD: AWAKENING, “Golden Boy”), Ansel Elgort (THE FAULT IN OUR STARS, CARRIE), Miles Teller (WHIPLASH), Kate Winslet (LITTLE CHILDREN, TITANIC), and Naomi Watts (THE IMPOSSIBLE, KING KONG). Brian Duffield (JANE GOT A GUN) and Akiva Goldsman (THE CLIENT, A TIME TO KILL) penned the screenplay based on bestselling author Veronica Roth’s DIVERGENT series. Douglas Wick and Lucy Fisher of Red Wagon Entertainment and Pouya Shahbazian produced. Neil Berger executive produced. DIVERGENT, the first installment in the series, grossed close to $300 million worldwide.
